How To Overseed Your Lawn
Here Are the Key Steps to Overseeding Your Lawn
Download the PDF guide or see the key steps below to help you prepare:
- Dethatch your lawn using a leaf or hard rake to remove dead foliage.
- Compacted areas should be aerated. This will reduce soil compaction and improve soil health.
- Apply Willowlee 10-14-10 Starter Fertilizer evenly throughout the overseeding area.
- Apply Willowlee seed evenly throughout the overseeding area.
- 4-6 weeks after applying the Starter Fertilizer, apply Willowlee Grow-In Fertilizer. Repeat every 4-6 weeks.
- Early September, overseed with a Willowlee seed blend to areas that have not fully recovered as required.
- November 1st, add an application of Dormant Fertilizer will build winter hardiness and improve spring green up.
Quick tips for a greener, thicker lawn:
- Seed to soil contact is important. Removing old foliage by dethatching exposes bare soil, and improves seed germination.
- Aeration (optional) will help to reduce compaction of the soil and improve soil health.
- Maintaining a 4-6 week fertilizing schedule is key to a great lawn.
- Overseeding will also help with weed control.
- Monitor soil moisture when overseeding.
- Established lawns prosper with deep, infrequent watering, ideally 1″ of rainfall or irrigating once per week.
